IT’S NOT THAT EASY
Painting isn’t as easy as you think it is. It looks easy but it’s not and it takes great skill. It’s more than grabbing a brush or a roller and slapping paint on a wall. There’s a lot of preparation to take care of. And there’s jobs to perform when you think you’ve completed the job. You might as well hire a contractor and let someone else take care of the before, during and after. You won’t have to put your hand on a brush or a roller if you follow these tips after you’ve decided what needs painting and you want to hire someone to do it.
The first thing you need to do is your homework. Contact contactors you’ve heard about or searched up on the internet. Talk your network and get recommendations. They will be honest about the good and the bad. Even go back to social media postings from your “friends.” You can use past postings to gather information. People will divulge a lot and even tag (highlight) the contractors that did the work. Or even take the opportunity to ask questions by sending a direct message. It’s amazing what people will share from behind a keyboard.
When you start contacting companies to gather quotes you need to know who purchases the paint, preps the walls (sanding, filling in any holes, cleaning) and moves and covers up the furniture. Ask if you do any of this yourself if the price will be reduced. You never know unless you ask. Make sure to get at least three quotes.
When you have done all your research, in-person and online, and it’s time to make a commitment with a contractor, be sure to get a written contact. The contract should include details on the wall preparation, which paint will be used, when the work will be done and the payment terms. By the way, you shouldn’t pay for the whole job up front. A deposit upfront will suffice.
A job well done is worth the effort. A good painting pro will make sure your walls are in good condition as well look great for years to come. When the job is completed, you can sit back in admiration.
